All Actors Want One Thing...
Acess to more auditions and better roles.
If you are a trained actor with at least three years experience, read on…
Like a lot of parents, I put my career and my dreams on hold to focus on my family. But as our son grew up and needed me less and less, I found myself wondering if it was too late to return to my passion — acting.
I used to be a professional actor, but at 47, with a gaping 16 year gap in my resume, I wanted to give my dreams one more chance. But how? I didn‘t have any industry contacts and had no current showreel material. I had no idea where or how to start.
It’s now 10 years later and this is what I want you to know – it's never too late to fulfill your destiny. And, in this video, I'm going to share exactly how I reignited my acting career on two continents
Actors are among the most resilient, empathetic people out there, and this industry has a place for everyone who dares to dream. My story is a testament to that. So, if you're wondering how to rekindle your acting career, or even start one, stick around.
When I was deciding whether to abandon my dreams or chase them, I faced a tough reality – I knew the acting world had moved on without me, and getting back in wasn't going to be easy. But here's the thing – every hurdle I stumbled over, every 'no' I heard, they all taught me something. And the most surprising part? The keys to success were not what I thought they'd be. And it’s those lessons I am going to share with you. If you're looking to fire up your acting career again, or maybe even light that spark for the first time, you've landed in the right spot.
The Problem.
If you’re a trained actor and have been trying to break into the industry for at least three years, then listen up.
You've got talent, you've honed your skills, and you're ready to take on bigger roles. But despite all your hard work and dedication, the phone isn't ringing. The roles you dream of seem out of reach. I know exactly how you feel…
You're doing everything you’re supposed to do:
Your training is up-to-date,
Your headshots are fresh,
You update your showreel
You reach out to casting directors...
And still…
Crickets.
Not nearly enough auditions. It's frustrating, and disheartening. You start questioning…
Why? What else can you do? What else is there to do?
Does it all just come down to luck? I mean, we’re told time and time again, just keep at it, and eventually, your turn will come. But will it?
These are all questions I was asking as I struggled to break back into the film industry. For me, it felt like standing at the mouth of a huge maze. You can hear the party on the other side so there must be a way through but you don’t know how to get there.
Trust me, I get it. That’s certainly how I felt until I stopped doing everything “right” and started using my creativity (a gift we all have) to figure out new ways to get through the maze.
The problem is the solution.
It's not just about pushing harder in the same direction; it's about changing the game.
I'll touch on the essential elements you need to transform your acting career. These include understanding exactly what your unicorn qualities are plus, how you can apply your life experiences, passions, and special skills to your talent to build a knockout personal brand that nobody can compete with. I’ll also dive into networking and outreach, a.k.a., marketing, so that you get noticed by the right people.
After that, I'll share some key tips and experiences that helped me and could be game-changers for you, too.
It's all about showcasing what sets you apart so that you have no competition. One big hint is, the thing you think is holding you back the most, just might be your superpower.
Hey, I’m Anne
If somebody had told me 10 years ago that I’d be where I am now, I wouldn’t have believed them. But, today you can see me on screens big and small on two continents. You may have recently seen me in the Hallmark Christmas movie, A Heidelberg Holiday. And just before the winter break, I got two direct requests from casting directors, one for a recurring role on a HULU series shooting in Paris and the other for a commercial shoot in Mexico for two weeks. And, I’ve also recently auditioned twice for an Emmy award-winning drama and booked the lead in an Indie film shooting in Berlin this Spring.
These experiences aren’t just auditions and jobs, they’re the confirmation that my strategy is working.
I’m not saying it’s been a bed of roses. Of course, I haven’t skipped merrily from one win to the next. I’ve had my share of hopes dashed, rejections, and disappointments and I’m not nearly done trying to get bigger and better roles, but each project, each opportunity, has been a stepping stone to something better. And besides, the low points are just a fact of this industry.
But, I can look back to where I stood 10 years ago, with nothing but determination to succeed, and see how each new experience taught me how to navigate a little further into the maze.
I hope I don’t sound like I’m boasting because what I’m trying to do is show you that with the right approach, success in this industry is attainable at any stage of life. I learned so much from these experiences - so many valuable lessons about persistence, strategy, and self-belief – that I know can be transformative for anyone in this industry, no matter where you're starting from.
